WHAT IS YOGA?
Yoga is a spiritual practice, part of which, including breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures, is widely practiced for health and relaxation. Yoga was developed by the Indus-Sarasvati civilization of Northern India 5,000 years ago. The word yoga itself means "union." This one word could sum up all of what yoga represents - the union of the body, breath & mind. The union of the soul and the spirit.
Yoga encompasses much more than the "asanas" or the "postures".Though many people think of yoga as only physical exercise, this is actually the most superficial aspect of this extraordinary lifestyle which brings your mind, body and soul closer to its highest potential; enlightenment. Yoga focus' on many steps to reach this enlightenment, including; diet, purification + cleanliness, state of mind (karma), physical practice, meditation, mantras, etc...
Upon becoming certified through Yoga Alliance + Routes of Yoga 200 hour teacher training located in Bali, Indonesia, I have found my true calling. Nothing compares to the feeling of oneness that yoga brings to my daily life. To practice yoga is to heal the body while coming closer to Samadhi or "Enlightenment." Samadhi is a spiritual experience that opens us to the highest state of our conscious mind and inner bliss. It is a state of pure consciousness, that is free from all suffering. There is no attachment to any thought, items, people or places. Samadhi is finding the light and divineness within yourself without having to look elsewhere for fulfillment. Using breath and movement as one works to create space for the body to truly detox from the inside-out. Yoga is not only a great for your mind and soul, but will also leave you feeling flexible, strong, refreshed and ready to take on the world with a smile (and a great posture.) Yoga works all areas of the body, focusing on core, arm and leg strength, breath work, lengthening and leaning. I am so completely passionate about this practice and only hope to share it with you all.
In June 2015 I attended "Routes of Yoga" 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training course, located in the heart of Ubud, Bali. Upon receiving my assessment based certificate and becoming Yoga Alliance certified, my entire life as I knew it, had changed. I was transformed into a "yogi."
During the intensive training course I was tested to the limits physically, mentally and spiritually. I learned that to practice yoga was to heal. This course taught me an array of asanas (physical postures), but this was only a small percentage of what I really had learned. We were taught and tested on the full physical anatomy of the body, where and how yoga originated, old scriptures on the basics of yoga, how to live a yogi lifestyle, the yogic diet, meditation, prana (energy), sutras, mantras and so much more. This course taught me how to take my yoga practice to the next level, as well as how to teach others to progress in their own practices.
Now, I am the owner of a studio based out of Montauk, New York. I teach all types of classes ranging from restorative aromatherapy to vinyasa flow, to sculpt. I specialize in private lessons where I create personalized sequences for specific body types. Every person you come in contact with is different. All body types are unique. This is the basis of my practices in pilates and health coaching as well. My motto, if you will. Due to different lifestyles and body-types, some people may need different postures to help them reach their highest potential. For example; A runners body will require a different sequence than a dancer. People come in all shapes and sizes, and I truly aim to honor that. With my personalized sequences, it really gives your body the ultimate detox while pushing it to its highest potential.
WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki is perhaps the gentlest and most practical healing therapy in the world. A form of vibrational healing developed in early 20th century Japan, it involves the light laying on of hands, based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient's body and restore physical and emotional well-being. To restore balance, in the mind, body & spirit.
WHAT IS AROMATHERAPY?
Aromatherapy is the use of high grade, plant/herb extracted essential oils to induce a state of deep relaxation for the individual.
During September 2017 I underwent a full (and very personal) Reiki 1 Certification weekend where I was attuned to practice Reiki not only on myself, but on others & animals. We learned the 8 points of Reiki for self & 12 points of Reiki on others. These teachings were the same teachings from the originator of Reiki, Mikao Usui.
This training took place at Mandala Center for Healing Arts in Amagansett New York, with Reiki Master Barbara Hennessy.
Pilates was created by a man named Joseph Pilates. Joseph Pilates was born in 1883 in a small village in Germany. He was influenced by Eastern and Western forms of exercise - like yoga. He later came in contact with war veterans who had many physical issues disabling them from moving around without pain. This is when Mr. Pilates began the development of the exercise now known as "Pilates". He focused on the core muscles that help keep the body balanced by supporting the spine. Through this he was able to heal people physically and mentally by creating a fused mind and body experience. This exercise includes a system of moves that enhance strength, flexibilty, posture, and mental awareness. Using your breath to move you through these stretches you will begin to strengthen the most important part of your body, your core. When you strengthen the core or the "powerhouse," this is when you truly begin to transform the body.
Pilates is also a lengthening and leaning exercise. For people who practice this exercise, growing an inch or two is extremely common. Because of the core strength, breathing techniques, and range of motion you achieve with Pilates chronic back pain and other debilitating physical ailments decrease significantly. Pilates when done regularly is capable of creating an extremely new and exciting physical and mental well being.
I recieved my training from Power Pilates (2013) located in the heart of New York City. During this training I endured countless hours of the exercise of pilates in many different settings. I learned about the anatomy of the body and how pilates heals many physical conditions. I was phsycially tested on each specific move and how to acheive maximum success by preforming them a certain way. I was also given a writen exam on the role of certain muscles in the body and how they correlate to the exercise of Pilates.
Upon becoming certified to teach Pilates my whole life has improved. Practicing Pilates regularly has had such an amazing impact on my overall appearance. Three major changes I have noticed from Pilates are a fully corrected posture, strengthened abdominals, and a dramatically increased energy level.
